Horizontal Balance: Forward-down, yes or no?

While in the previous seminars we have mainly dealt with lateral balance, i.e. the balance between the right and left side of the body, in the eighth part of the webinar series “Natural asymmetry and training for straightness” we will focus on horizontal balance, the balance between the forehand and hindquarters. This is one of the most intensely debated topics in the equestrian world.

  • Should you ride forward-down at all?
  • And how much?
  • Or is this not totally detrimental?
  • How much stretch does the back need?
  • How do the different muscle groups work together in a correct forward-down?
  • Why is the lower neck such a fragile area and how is it impacted by the head position?
